Razor sharp, lightweight travel and portrait lens.

The Sigma 60mm f2.8 is exceedingly sharp right from f/2.8 across the entire frame of my Sony A6500. It is a great lens for portraits, with an equivalent 90mm focal length and the f2.8 it gives enough plane of focus with nice smooth bokeh. It does pick up absolutely every minute detail, so some (or a lot of) softening in post will be required unless your subject has absolutely no unwanted lines, or wrinkles, no matter how small! The optics are quite simply superb wide open through to f/8 with no discernible distortion. The colour rendition of all subjects including skin tones seem spot on. Auto focus is quick, but can be heard in the playback when shooting video. For professional use you should be miking off camera anyway. Whilst it has no stabilisation using with bodies such as the A6500 you have the added benefit of IBIS.

Value for money is just terrific. It really is a great all around lens for still photography, travel, portrait, street photography, or any subject that requires a 90mm equivalent lens. It has outperformed pretty much all other lenses I have owned regardless of price.

Be aware this lens rattles like something is loose or broken inside when off the camera. This is absolutely normal, and disappears when mounted on the camera, and the camera is turned on / in use. The same rattling is present in the Sigma 60mm, 30mm and 19mm DN lenses. This rattling is apparently due to a floating element which must be something to do with the AF, and not the stabilisation (as these lenses don't have any). Whilst many cameras and lenses do exhibit various small noises if shaken, this Sigma does take you by surprise that it does not sound or seem right being VERY loud and feels like an element is about to drop out! Having got the 60mm and 30mm myself and also handling the all 3 lenses in the shop, I can confirm 100% that the lenses are not broken, and although it does sound very strange the rattle is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about. Users should be aware of this to avoid panic and unnecessarily returning.
