Workshop / Course Information

Waterfalls and Coastal Landscapes of South Wales

Creative Landscape Photographic Workshop course by Image Seen.

This two centre workshop, which takes place in South Wales, has a big focus on water but our subject matter couldn't take on a more different character over the course of the two days as we seek to capture water within the landscape. From tumbling falls set in deep wooded valleys to dramatic cliffs, fascinating beaches and crashing waves, this workshop has it all.

We will spend a full day exploring the secluded woodlands on the southern edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, taking in the picturesque streams and falls within. These stunning waterfalls, each with their own unique character, are some of the loveliest we have encountered and offer potential for some fabulous photography.

Together we will follow the Elidir Trail along the River Nedd Fechan, taking in the falls enroute. Sgwd Gwladus (Lady Falls), with its delicate cascade is one of the most beautiful. We will also take in Sgwd-y-Bedol (the Horseshoe Falls), shaped in several levels of semi-circular ledges. A little further upstream the water cascades over Sgwd Ddwli Isaf and Sgwd Ddwli Uchaf (the Lower and Upper Gushing Falls) which after heavy rain, truly live up to their name. We will also visit nearby Melincourt Falls; a spectacular 80 feet (24 m) high waterfall and known to have inspired J. M. W. Turner to paint them in 1794

We will also spend a day exploring the wonderful Glamorgan Heritage coast. The 'Golden Coast' as it is known, is a spectacular mix of rugged cliffs, unique rock formations and golden sandy beaches and features some of the best beaches in the UK for photography. Awarded Heritage Coast status in 1972, this 14-mile length of relatively unknown protected coastline features dramatic plunging cliffs, tiny secluded coves and breathtaking views, and is a huge draw for landscape photographers.

During the course of the workshop we will visit some of the areas most photogenic locations, from Dunraven Bay with its fantastic rocks and wide pebble beach, to Traeth Mawr, one of the most photographed views in the area, and the wonderful rock pavements at Monknash. We have timed our workshop to coincide with the tides to enable us plenty of time to photograph around the unique rocks and wave cut platforms and to capture the many interesting patterns and textures to be found in the rock formations. The beaches in this area are full of photographic interest and perfect for long exposures

This is the ideal workshop if you are looking to master the capture of water.
