    Sturdy and well made product

The Nova Explorer T10 Carbon Fibre Professional Tripod is everything as described on the tin. I found this Novo tripod to be well made, sturdy and the perfect height for me when my camera is connected. Just love the way the legs fold up on themselves. I am truly one satisfied customer. Excellent product.

    Fantastic Purchase!

After years of searching for the perfect tripod, I can finally say my search is over. The quality of Novo gear is absolutely outstanding. I've taken my tripod from the mountains to the desert and into many wet environments. It still works flawlessly and looks brand new. Would highly recommend any of the Explora series tripods.

    Best travel tripods by far.

Over the years I have owned and tried many tripods, from those cheap, square legged, plastic clips and rubbish plastic head tripods in my youth, to heavyweight Sliks and Manfrottos.

As a keen enthusiast, I have been looking around for some time for a quality, solid, reliable, travel tripod. My criteria was:
    1. Carbon fibre (for lightweight, strength and comfortable carrying.)
    2. Price up to £300
    3. Full size, to reach head height.
    4. Good twist lock legs.
    5. Decent ball head supplied

The number 5 on my list would appear to be difficult to find. Most tripods I have looked at had not a relatively poor / basic head supplied with the tripod, and believe me I have been looking for some years now!

I have attended various shows, and stores, looking at many tripods of many manufacturers, including Sirui (and equivalents), 3 Legged Thing, Benro, Gitzo.
Sirui and similar are generally good quality, but theirs head are pretty basic, which was my feeling on the mid priced Benro tripods also. I also wasn't overly impressed with the handling. 3 Legged Thing are good quality, but over-hyped and ugly design in my opinion. Whilst their tripods are undoubtedly of good quality, and their heads are also better than most of the others, you are paying for (in my opinion) unnecessary and detractive garish styling, and a fashion statement. In my opinion they look amateurish, and although I am not a full time professional, I would rather my equipment being and looking professional and to fit in to the image Im trying to portray on a job, not to stand out like a sore thumb. On the weddings I have shot, I go dressed in a suit and tie, not ripped jeans and a tee-shirt, or clown outfit, and likewise. I don't take pictures with a mobile phone in a fluorescent green case, nor a bright yellow Pentax DSLR on a garish looking tripod. Aside from that, I personally find the more angular controls on the 3 Legged Things uncomfortable in use on many of their ranges. Gitzos are generally great quality. However although their heads are good quality, I personally did not like their operation as much as I would expect. And they are expensive, and more than I wanted to pay. I found the Manfrotto and Slik offerings too heavy, cumbersome, and agricultural. Over the last few years Manfrotto have also seemed to taken a drop in quality, and most are not made in Italy any more. Manfrotto's click locks are some of the better designed, but the twist locks are preferable for me, dont go slack, dont snag on clothing, and offer easy maintenance if required.

On experiencing the NOVO Explora series of tripods at the Photography show, I was most impressed. They ticked all of my required criteria. The Carbon Fibre on the Novo seems very good quality, and the tripods are stylish yet understated. They are lightweight, probably the lightest in their class, yet they seem exceedingly sturdy and robust. They seem to have been designed with thought and care. The rubber feet can simply be pulled off to reveal spikes. Simple but effective. The spikes can be removed, for replacement or fitment of other feet (supplied separately). The NOVO Explora's fold back on themselves to keep them compact for transportation, and come with a padded travel case. There also is a short centre column supplied in place of the larger centre column, enabling low level shots without the need to invert the centre column (which can also be done if required). There is also an integrated monopod which is a nice addition - its so well designed into the tripod, you dont realise its there. I found the Novo Explora twist locks very easy to use and comfortable in the hand when in use. If there is a slight criticism I would like the leg lock grips slightly larger. However they lock very easily and positively - generally a quarter of a turn makes then go from free to a solid lock. Naturally the Novo heads / plates are Arca-Swiss compatible. The NOVO ballheads are not just decent, they are exceedingly good, and by far the best heads I have come across on any tripod kit, including offerings from the big expensive manufacturers including Gitzo. I would go further as to say that even if the Gitzo tripods were the similar price as the Novo's, I think I would still choose the Novo - for what I am looking for it is really that good! Its a fantastic travel tripod, and equally good for general all round photography.

I did consider the Novo T5, T10, and T20. The T20 is very sturdy, and reaches head height even with the centre column removed. For most people, even with heavy SLR kit the Novo T10 is probably the sweet spot for a full size travel tripod. For those with Panasonic / Olympus mirrorless systems then the T5 may be the better choice, or the T20 for users with big full frame SLR kit and long lenses, and the T20 goes to head height without raising the centre column. All come with an excellent head, matched to the tripod. The T10 comes with the Novo CBH-40 head.

Conclusion - Highly recommended - a fantastic travel (and general use) tripod with superb head (Novo CBH-40) supplied as standard.
